In this article I will share some basic fundamental SEO tips which should be implemented to achieve good ranking in search engines.
Here are some tips:
1. Choose Relevant Keywords:
Your website tells about your company, product and services, while doing search engine optimization make sure to choose keywords relevant to web page. Don’t optimize your whole website to one keyword; instead choose different relevant keywords for all pages.
Most importantly, try to find keywords phrase which are popular but less competitive so that you get higher rank. The question is that; how do you find popular but less competitive keywords? The most popular keywords analysis tools which I use are GoogleAdwords and WordTrackers. With these tools you can narrow your keywords and also get more keyword idea.
NOTE: Don’t waste your time in optimizing your website for those keywords which nobody use for search.
2. Analyze your Competitors:
To rank high on search engines you should be familiar with the following information about your competitor.
a. Competitor rank on search engine for given keywords b. Page Rank of competitor’s website c. Total number of back links of your competitor’s website d. How keywords are used on web pages e.g keyword density
Now a day’s different tools like free seo tool or SEOBook are used to find most of the above information about your competitor website.
3. Title Tag Optimization:
The title tag is displayed on top of any web browser window. This is one of the most important tags of a website which should be to the point, relevant to the page content and most importantly short in length. The ideal length of title tag is 60 to 80 characters. Make sure that you have one keyword in your title tag.
4. Meta Tags Optimization:
Meta tags information comes in head portion, the area where you mention keywords, description and robots.
The keyword Meta tag is where you mention keywords from which you want your website to be displayed on search engine. This tag has 15 to 20 words maximum.
Your description tag should consist of 25 to 30 words. If your company is offering any discounts or free services than try to mention it in description to attract people, because the search engine shows description tag on SERP (search engine result page).
Robots tags will tell search engine that if you want this particular page to be indexed or not.
5. Heading Tags:
Heading tags are h1, h2, h3, h4 etc. Use your keywords in h1 and h2 tags because when Google give your site more value if it finds keywords placed in heading tags.
I heard lots of people saying that “Content Is King” I agree with them. The more content you have on your website the more chances of getting higher rank increases. Make sure your content should be unique, fresh and relevant to your keywords. Those website always rank high which have lots of fresh content and they update content on regular basis.
Especially use keyword 3 to 4 times in the first paragraph of your content. Because keywords repetition in your content is important.
7. Increase Keyword Font Size:
The font that is larger than the standard size of font indicates that text importance and search engine recognize that. Bold your keyword text or use them in heading tag.
8. CSS Validation:
In your webpage there should be no broken link, make sure to add alt attribute on image tag, properly close anchor tags etc. Try to validate your css form CSS validator website.

10. Site Map:
Every website should have site map which has link to all pages. Sitemap help search engine crawler to index and crawl a website.
Plain HTML sitemap is fine if you can’t create XML SiteMaps or Google sitemap. For wordpress blog you can use Google XML SiteMap Generator Plugin to create Robots.txt file.
11. Robots.txt File:
Mostly pages on website or blog not needed to be indexed by search engine, so robots.txt file is used to instruct search engine what pages should and should not be indexed and crawled. Likewise wordpress and joomla etc have files which are not relevant to search engine and should not be crawled.
12. Link Building:
Links from website other than your own is called inbound links and your inbound links will help to increase page rank. Remember, 1 or 3 links from higher page rank is far better than 20 links of lower page rank.
Your main priority should be to get maximum inbound links from reputable sites. Links from .edu and .gov give your site more credibility as they are hard to find. .Edu site represent universities and school that why it has higher reputation. Also submit your website to directories like yahoo, DMOZ
